When I started this blog and this journey, my goals were pretty nebulous. My main goal was, you know, actually doing this.
Now I’m doing it! I’ve reached a bit of a milestone, in fact: I have filled up one entire WW booklet, with no sign of quitting or tapering off! I get a new book next week! I think it’s time to set some goals
- Reach 180 by the end of 2011/Q1 2012. Total weight loss goal: 53.8 pounds. 38.8 lbs to go.
- Get my body fat percentage into the healthy range for women. I am double-checking with my old trainer what mine was a year ago. I was in the overweight range — I think 35%?
- Lose inches in my hips & waist. 4-5 inches in my hips & 4-5 inches in my waist would make me a “true”/standard 14 and/or 12.
- Run a mile without stopping.
- Go down 1-2 cup sizes. I miss my C cup (real or not, ha).
I have some rigid, calendar-type motivation — a wedding in September! I’m not setting a specific weight or size for it, but I want to keep working at the pace I’ve been going, and look slamming in whatever dress I get! And it’s going to be a colorful dress. With cleavage. I may even wear heels! Egads!
Goals feel more real once we write them down, right? Anyone out there have goals they want to hit in 2011, or ones they’ve met and want to share?

I have some goals right now, but they’re happening on a daily basis..obviously, I have bigger goals too, but the day to day adds up.
Today my goal is to workout before midnight. =)
I love your goals..they’re utterly fantastic.
Yay wedding!
Though I am very :/ over wedding-related fitness stuff… there’s so much pressure about being perfect for your one day, and then so much “well, I believe in lifestyle changes not diets, but now is the time to push myself so I’m going to diet and call it a lifestyle change” My mentality is I push myself plenty hard enough already and to avoid any sort of message that’s going to lead to injury, self-hatred, unnecessary hunger, or body dysmorphia. So I guess that in itself is kind of a health-related goal…
But I LOVE performance-related goals. Everything’s kind of revolving around pushing myself harder at frisbee – actually playing offense AND defense when I’m matched up against someone faster than me, and getting over the mental “I can’t run that fast for that long” hurdle.
Yes, yay wedding! I know what you mean. Obviously I am not the one getting married (ha! — will there be single men at your wedding, btw? XD), but the messaging in our culture about being “perfect” on that day is pretty maddening. I totally *get* the “wedding diet” idea… but at the same time a wedding is already so stressful, so why torture yourself?
I’m just starting to experiment with performance related goals. They’re kind of scary, in that I’m still learning the mental elements of running & activity, but over time I’d like to have them replace weight & inch related goals. Right now physically slimming down is a major goal… but over time I want to put my money where my mouth is and actually get fit & properly healthy
yes, there will be some single guys… some of whom you might get along very well with and others should probably come with warning labels (not that any of them are bad guys… just not recommended for dating)
I can understand the mentality that there’s going to be so many pictures taken that it’s terrifying to think of any sort of “flaw” or even just a bad angle or silly look being recorded for posterity. But at the same time, I am kind of terrified the idea of looking back 30 years from now and seeing some skinny little made up woman who looks nothing at all like me in my wedding album. So really it comes down to “crap, I hope I don’t gain (or even lose) so much weight that my dress doesn’t fit cause that thing cost money and didn’t come with a lace-up back.”
Makes sense… performance related goals are a little harder when you’re first getting started. But at the same time, I remember when I first started getting into shape, EVERYTHING felt like a huge success. Seriously, the day you run a mile without stopping you will be so psyched. I was on cloud 9 for WEEKS after that, since it was something we were forced to do so many times in gym class and I could never, ever accomplish it.
You should put warning labels on your guests. That would be HILARIOUS.
Oooh. I cannot wait to see your dress. I AM EXCITE.
hahahaha! Oh, man, I hate to do anything that could be misconceived as mean-spirited, but we could come up with some pretty funny labels for our guests. I think we’re going to use trivia questions instead of table numbers, though… so that’s something.
yaye! i forget if i told you anything about it, but i’m super happy about it and now totally clueless as to what to do for accessories.
Sorry I am ALL over your website today. So many writing deadlines I’m content with ignoring.
My lofty goals (or not goals so much as I’d like tos!):
1) I really want to shave 1.5 hours off both my marathon time and my half marathon time.
2) Start weight training for real. Strong bones, I NEEDZ YOU.
3) Start rocking yoga hardcore. My flexibility has gone to poo.
4) Learn to love myself at a smaller weight. No self-sabotage.
I like #4
<3
Goals for this year:
1) Don’t fail out of graduate school, no matter how hard it is
2) Shave half an hour or more off my marathon time and ten minutes off of my half marathon time
3) Drop a few pounds and have more toned arms, I’d like to do 50 pushups in one sitting with no difficulty
50 push-ups with no problem?! I admire your goal very much! Man, you’re reminding me that I should work on my planks again. I used to be able to do one minute, but now I doubt I could do 30 seconds
My newest goal is to lose 30lbs by the end of summer. I keep losing and gaining the same 20lbs. I know if I am able to push past those 20 and keep going, I will be golden for the long term goals.
My goal in January was to be at “goal weight” by the end of the year. That would mean losing 77lbs in a year.
Now, we’re in June, and I’ve only lost 13lbs. Makes the goal a little daunting – but I’ve decided I’m getting rid of the “weight goal” and focusing on things like improving my stamina and stength, work more on strength training, run a 5K without walking… fitness type goals. I like those better.
